Snapchat x Google
Environmental Award
& Residency
Working in Augmented Reality to extend the storytelling facet in my work to include new and immersive media art. Completing an artist residency with Snap to become an official Lens creator and go on to work in conjunction with Google as part of Earth Day 2021.
Snap and Google reached out to a group of artists to create Augmented Reality lens responding to the issues concerning environmental effects. This process harnessed research relating the impact of climate change and its impact our oceans, particularly coral bleaching. I proceeded to create a Lens which simulates the effect on coral when you adjust the temperature in the sea.
This Lens won the “Best environment & social good” Award as part of the LensFest Festival in 2021
Part of my Storytelling Residency included my creation of 3 Lens which can be tried out in the link below. I was interviewed as part of the online publication Lenlist included below:
“My background was originally in a traditional visual arts-based practice which eventually progressed into installations, projections and the digital arts.
My interests n animation and experimenting with both the 2D and 3D mediums as a form of creating narratives to start blending reality with the surreal.
Using Augmented reality in my creative process lets me push this into a whole other dimension. Transposing another world onto our current one and bringing a viewer into a portal never previously imagined is a huge driver into why I create. Combining Animation, AR and Art (AAART – not a real term… yet) for me seems like a fluid progression to tap into people's imagination and release expressive elements, not only creatively but also with considered messages to take the viewer on a journey, a trip. “
